You may feel as though something is not quite right, but you can’t put your finger on what it is. You may desire the opportunity to explore and gain clarity on what that “thing” is for you. It is also possible you may have a specific direction you know you want therapy to go. It’s okay to not know. There is a lot to gain from sitting down with a professional to get guidance, support, and skills to cope more effectively and live the life you want to lead.
I am currently an in-network provider for United Healthcare plans, which include Optum, Oscar, and Oxford, Aetna, and Carisk Behavioral Health. If you have a different type of insurance, I can help you in the process of determining your out of network benefits and provide you with paperwork to send in for reimbursement.
The main goal is to start building a trusting and collaborative relationship. At a pace you’re comfortable with, I tend to ask some specific questions, and some more general, to understand your journey thus far, and make sense of what you’re wanting from therapy. Together, we will start to understand patterns and highlight any areas of concern. I like to give feedback about my understanding of your story, and I always welcome reactions to make sure I am on the right track. Together, we will build goals for therapy during the first session.
Yes! Due to Covid-19, all sessions are currently being conducted through telehealth (video/phone). Once we start working together, I give you access to a HIPAA compliant platform, Simple Practice. It is easily accessible by computer or by downloading an app to your mobile device.
Confidentiality is a vital aspect of therapy. You are most likely choosing to go to therapy to have a safe and trusted environment to share freely.
There are a few limits to confidentiality by law.
These include:
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child or elder. In filing a report, the proper authorities will be notified, including Child Protection Services and law enforcement, depending on each case and the information provided by the client.
- Suspicion that the client is in serious danger of harming him/herself or has threated to harm another person, or group of people. If this occurs, the proper authorities and law enforcement will be notified.
- Therapist is given a court subpoena, which requires the release of specific client information.
- Therapist is allowed to share information if a child/minor reports that he/she is in imminent danger.
